We are thrilled to announce that the Retraining of Racehorses Musical Ride Display Team will be performing at The Middleham Open Day at 1.30pm on the Low Moor. The team have recently performed at the prestigious international event, Belton Horse Trials.

The Retraining of Racehorses Musical Ride Display Team is made up of eight former racehorses that between them have run over 166 times and won over £375,000 in prize money. This is an all Yorkshire team of horses and riders as they were all trained in Yorkshire and are owned and ridden by Yorkshire girls aged between 16 and 61 years of age. They train regularly throughout the year at Snainton Equestrian Centre near Scarborough.

RoR’s North East Regional Co-ordinator and Chef D’equipe Vicky Smart and team trainer Charlotte Wilson first put together the Musical Ride Display Team in August 2014 with horses and riders who were enjoying re-training their ex-racehorses at ROR organised clinics within the region. They performed to a small crowd at Bishop Burton Horse Trials and were so well received that were asked to take their performance to Ascot Champions Day later that year. Since 2014 they have adapted and improved the routine, increased the technicality of the performance and even included an eight horse wheel and they hope that by seeing what these horses and their grass roots riders can achieve together they can help to promote the adaptability and versatility of the ex-racehorse to a wider audience.

The team are performing to a selection of tracks by Jess Glynne skilfully arranged by Tom Hunt who created Charlotte Du Jardin’s London 2012 Olympic Gold medal winning music and her new Rio Olympic Freestyle dressage music. In 2016 the ROR MusicalRide team have performed at Bishop Burton, Belton Horse Trials, Gatcombe Festival of British Eventing and they were recently privileged to perform in the parade ring at Sandown Park racecourse at the Rock with ROR charity race day where Jess Glynne performed live after racing.

We are delighted to welcome the team to Middleham to perform to raicng fans attending the 2017 Middleham Open Day.
